up to him. I entered his bedroom where he usually dined. I brought up mutton, soup, tea - no lemonade, heer, wine or spirits. Deceased was lying on his bed. He looked at me and said "If there is a 'phone message comes for me, answer and say I am out". He told me to leave the dinner on the table. I went down. The same night at 10 p.m. I saw the lights were out and the bed room was closed. I tried the door: it was locked. I descended again. Next morning at 6 a.m. I made tea and knocked at the bedroom door. It was locked. Deceased used to take tea a little after 5 a.m. and leave his door open. At 7 a.m. I changed duty.
At 10 a.m. I entered the adjoining room with last witness who opened the door. I saw deceased lying in the bathroom. I saw the tumbler and bottles in the bathroom. There was a smell of
gasg: so I closed the pipe. I did'nt enter the bedroom I found the gas nipple on a washandstand near where deceased was lying. There was no nipple on the gas pipe.

I have never had any quarrels with deceased who was
very good to me. I have never known deceased behave insanely.
James Kynoch sworn and examined:·
I am an Overseer in the P. W. D. On morning of 6th.
instant I was at Kennedy Town Hospital. A hospital boy about 10 a.m.
told me deceased was dead. I went with the boy and saw deceased. He was lying on his right side in the bathroom. There was a very strong smell of gas. I saw the blue bottle on the table. The white bottle was lying on the floor. I entered deceased's bedroom, his meal was there apparently untouched. I telephoned to the Government Civil Hospital shut the doors left things untouched and waited. Dr. Kelly came
about 10.45 a.m.
The day before I had tea with deceased. He seemed very quiet. About a week before his death deceased had told me the boys were going to poison him. I thought he was in fun and laughed. I have known deceased about 6 months. He always seemed to me a little
peculiar.
